SAN DIEGO, CA, July 13, 2011 – ADL Embedded Solutions, a provider of highly reliable, embedded single-board computers (SBC), systems and peripherals for use under harsh environmental conditions, has announced long-term perspectives for 855 chipset-based SBC products following the Intel® discontinuance of its 855GME chipset family. These well-established SBCs are extremely important for industrial applications, because they are the last platforms that support the 16-bit ISA bus with DMA. ADL Embedded Solutions has two solutions on the market that use the 855 chipset: the “ADL855PC” PC/104-Plus board and the 3.5-inch “ADL855HD” board. These SBCs are based on Intel Pentium M processors with clock rates of up to 1.8 GHz.
Long Term Availability Made Possible by Forward-Looking Material Planning for Inventory
855 Chipset: On the basis of its current material planning, ADL Embedded Solutions guarantees product availability for the 855GME chipset and the related support until 2015, thus providing sufficient time for customers to transition from the 16-bit ISA bus to newer interconnect technologies.
Pentium-M and Celeron-M Processors: While none of the currently used Pentium-M or Celeron-M processors have been EOL’d by Intel yet, ADL Embedded Solutions can draw from a large inventory of Pentium-M 745 1.8GHz and Celeron-M 373 1.0GHz processors to match the expected availability of the 855 chipset through 2015 and beyond.
Additionally, Three Other Processors: Celeron-M at 600MHz and 1.5Ghz, and Pentium-M at 1.4GHz will continue to be available until Intel announces EOL last time buys for these processors, at which time ADL Embedded Solutions will ensure sufficient quantities to meet customer forecasts.
According to JC Ramirez, ADL Embedded Solutions Product Manager, “ADL Embedded Solutions can draw from a large inventory of Pentium M and 855GME chipsets for small and larger type projects. This offers the reliability and flexibility that is required in order to be able to meet the needs of industrial users with high-quality, recently manufactured products over a long period. Especially when 16-bit ISA interoperability is required for system integration.”
