Power plants, refineries and chemical plants are all at risk for toxic chemical, explosive gas and radiation levels that can be dangerous to workers and surrounding populations, while public venues can be at risk of explosives and bio-threats. Chemical, biological, gas and radiation detection is managed by way of a main computer that controls a detection system and monitors safety and support systems necessary to avert the threat. Explosives detection systems control trace detectors and may interface with x-ray and other scanner technologies. SBCs with high I/O flexibility including support for legacy hardware and sufficient processing power for traffic control can be used quite effectively, such as the ADLD25PC and ADLS15PC Intel® Atom SBCs, or more powerful SBCs such as the ADLGS45PC and ADLQM67PC with PCI-express connectivity.
Rugged mobile, low-power video systems are well suited for providing surveillance to temporary or remote locations like construction sites, college campuses or even wildlife monitoring. They often use wireless cameras that send video data to a host system capable of monitoring, manipulating and storing multiple video data streams. Similarly, fixed CCTV systems remain a staple in many businesses from Banks / ATM machines and retail stores to private businesses and casinos. Companies with automated production also benefit from this embedded technology by providing video monitoring of production and image capture for quality inspection. Many ADL Embedded Solutions SBCs offer connectivity to framegrabber products or multi-port LAN cards to make a myriad of video and image capture solutions possible.
Used for years by law enforcement, biometric identification offers one of the highest levels of security access control. Facial recognition requires a computing platform with superior 3D processing power for multi-frame 3D exploitation, rotation and 2D normalization. SBCs like the PCI/104-Express ADLGS45PC, PCIe/104 ADLQM67PC, or 3.5” boards all provide excellent I/O connectivity coupled with the processing power to make most applications possible. In the case of the ADLQM67PC (with its 256bit ring bus, AVX vector extensions and integrated HD3000 graphics core) enough floating point and vector processing power is available, so as to make off-board image processing and DSP hardware unnecessary.
The ADLGS45PC with 2xGLAN onboard and available 4xGLAN expansion via the PCIe backplane has found wide use in several secure mini-router applications. For one-way secure data transfer schemes requiring multiple SBCs, the ADLS15PC has been used with good success. Secure applications have been implemented with ADLS15PC and ADLGS45PC SBCs.
